Another set of pouches made from my leftover quilt cut offs! These pouch patterns aren’t free, but they are worth it. Designers spend a lot of time developing, testing, and editing their patterns. Which I appreciate. With my dollars.

The fabric in these is mostly leftovers: I did break into a fat quarter or two, but I mostly made use of my scrap bin.

So here’s my thoughts!

Sunny Glasses – by Ma Tante Quilts

This is a quick sew, no zipper, no gussets! I think I’d prefer to make this with foam to provide better padding. And now that I think about it, what a perfect use for all those small bits of foam I have leftover from making larger bags.

But I digress! This is still a nice little sleeve for protecting your glasses. And if you like to use your leftover 10″ squares to play around with quilting options on a finished quilt, this is a PERFECT thing to turn a 10″ quilt sandwich into. Win-win.

Cove Clutches – by Knot and Thread Designs. This one calls for foam.

Instead of foam, I used batting on the outer and Wawak profuse interfacing on the lining. And I modified the measurements a smidge to take advantage of my fabric sizes. But basically: I made the small size. It doesn’t have quite the same satisfying smoosh as it would with foam, but there’s enough structure with batting+interfacing.

This one does use bias binding, but it’s not fiddly. The pouch came together so quickly and the end result is so polished. There will be more of these in my future.

Zip Around Pouch – by Bad Banana Patterns

This is SUCH a fun pouch for some fussy cutting! With a 3.5″ diameter, you don’t need much fabric to show off a cute print.

I need to work on my gussets, is what this little pouch really highlights. Getting the curve nice and smooth isn’t for the faint of heart.

For the binding on the inside to enclose those seams: definitely use bias binding. It’ll stretch just right to go smoothly around those curves.

If you need a taller pouch, it would be straight-forward to increase the height of the gusset to provide more height.

Zipper is a 12″ zipper from Amazon that I bought in bulk before I knew better, and the key ring is from a gazillion pack that I got from Joann.

Poppet Pouch – by Rosie Taylor Crafts

This one is a little more involved and does take some planning with your stash to find good coordinating fabrics. And fussy cutting! So if you enjoy none of those things, this is not the pouch for you.

I made a small and a medium, as that’s what my leftover trimmings would allow. And I did some fussy cutting to center butterflies in each pouch.

These. are. the. adorablest. Definitely fiddly to sew the gusset on (that’s the hardest part for me) and then the binding. I started with the smallest one, which was backwards of me. In this case: smaller doesn’t mean easier.

Rigby Bag – by Craft Owl Handmade. This one calls for fusible fleece.

This is more than a pouch, this is a full on crossbody bag! A small one (at 6.5″ x 4.5″ x 3″), but the perfect size for carrying a phone, wallet, and a chapstick.

This worked up fairly quickly, as fast as a bag with a gusset and binding can go.

Emerson Crossbody Quilted Bag – by The Blanket Statement

This came together so fast! Dimensions on the bag are 9w x 5h x 3d, so it worked perfectly with ~6″ wide strips. I used the quilt backing as the bag outer, and most of the pocket and lining pieces came from the leftover layer cake that I used in the quilt that generated my current predicament in the first place. Which is to say: they coordinated perfectly.

I learned a new zipper technique with this bag, which is definitely one of the things that made it sew up so quickly.

Definitely recommend this pattern, glad to have it in my collection.
